A new blogging world

Blogging has become a new phenomenon in today’s world; people use blogging for all kind of purpose. Blog has somehow become a new platform for people to share their opinion, idea and also personal experiences. According to blogosphere statistics, there are 133,000,000 numbers of blogs indexed by Technorati since 2002 and an average of 900,000 blog posts within one day. (Singer, A 2009)

However, the trend in various countries may be different. In Europe, Asia and Malaysia, personal and corporate blog still remain as dominant. However, popularity of politics blog has increasing especially in United States and Iran when during election. A statistic indicates that people relied more on traditional media rather than blogosphere during 2008 US presidential campaign, however, 60% of them believe that blogosphere will bring bigger impact in the future. This trend further spread to Malaysia where politicians and entrepreneurs use blogs to update their readers in terms of political issues. Furthermore, personal blogs showed to be a prevalent in Taiwan.

Benefits of blogs to community

In Malaysia, blogging may be beneficial to community as freedom of public speaking is scarce in a country like Malaysia, people start using blogs to discuss about politics issues where blog is able to provide free public speaking. A report showed that there will be proportion of the two million voters likely to change the way they get information and news from the mainstream media to websites and blogs in the future. (The Malaysian insider 2009) Besides, people believed that information on blogosphere was accurate and immediate compare to traditional media sources. People start to rely on blogs as they found that blogosphere’s impact is immediate and noticeable. (Sussman, M, 2009)
